A GoFundMe has been established for Ron Holloway, known for his performance history with Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi, Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Scott-Heron, and others, in the hopes of garnering financial support to assist in offsetting the economic burden associated with ongoing health hardships.

Holloway was hospitalized in February 2025, stemming from complications due to an October 2024 injury. The initial tribulations resulted in medical supervision, friend and creator of the financial campaign, Jenny Langer, details, “We found out he had not been eating for a while and doctors discovered a cancerous tumor that required surgery. Ron’s body was not processing nutrition for an extended period, which led to Wernicke’s disease—a condition that mimics dementia and has seriously impacted his memory and cognition.”

“Ron has been hospitalized (between hospital and rehab centers) ever since. We believe the surgery did remove all the cancer, but this is being watched. Additionally, in July, Ron underwent another surgery to remove his spleen and developed pneumonia,” she continued via the GoFundMe page.

While the musician is currently recovering in the hospital before moving to a rehabilitation center, the rising costs of expenses have prompted friends to establish the financial campaign, which projects the need for $200,000, $160,000 in medical expenses, and another $40,000 to cover personal bills.

In response to the GoFundMe request, Holloway’s longtime collaborator and one-time maestro, Haynes, helped spread the word on Instagram, writing, “Our friend, brother, WHB 1.0 member + unofficial fifth member of Gov’t Mule, Ron Holloway, needs our help.”

Haynes wrote at length and reminded followers, “If you’ve ever been moved by Ron’s playing… if you’ve ever seen him light up a room with a solo, or bring a crowd to their feet… please consider donating to his recovery fund.”
