On Friday, September 14, Goose returned stateside after turning in a set of songs at Canada’s Harvest Music Festival. During their follow-up, the band took the Waterfront Park stage in jam mecca, Burlington, Vt., where their latest recruit, drummer Cotter Ellis, welcomed some hometown friends to the stage, singer Kat Wright, as well as Bob Wagner on guitar, and Josh Weinstein on bass, for a cover of The Wood Brothers’ Ways Not to Lose cut, “Atlas.”

From the jump, Goose acknowledged their location and Ellis’ musical roots in the lakeside city by covering Swimmer’s “My Mind Has Been Consumed By Media.” The move exhilarated fans, who fed off the convergence into original music via “A Western Sun.” Without pause, Rick Mitaronda, Peter Anspach, Trevor Weekz, and Ellis kept up the forward momentum while addressing their take on the onset of a longtime feature of their catalog, “Rockdale.”

What ensued was a ricochet of songs that bumped into Everything Must Go-featured “Atlas Dogs” before returning to “Rockdale.” Taking a moment to pause after a nonstop pick up of material, the guests above took the stage to assist on The Wood Brothers’ original, “Atlas.” The song initially entered their repertoire in 2015 and has also been performed with side projects, Vasudo and Orebolo. And, has been the subject of prior sit-ins with Sierra Hull (2025) and Brandon Niederauer (2020).

Friday night’s team-up highlighted the region’s fertile status for turning out celebrated acts and bolstered Ellis’ own ascent, from Nectar’s to Waterfront Park. Following the band’s set break, they performed a partial “Arrow,” leaving the track unfinished and moving into “Travelers,” which segued into “Thatch,” “This Old Sea,” and back into “Thatch.”

The evening’s encore resulted in a sequence of “Tumble” into Otis Day & The Knights’ “Shama Lama Ding Dong.” The band resolved back into “Tumble” to cap their time in Burlington. Goose will play at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis., on Wednesday, September 17. The concert is a co-bill with Mt. Joy. Tickets remain on sale.
