Gordi Releases New Album ‘Like Plasticine’, Announces Sydney Opera House Show
Gordi has officially released her third studio album, entitled Like Plasticine. Released today (August 8th), the follow-up to 2020’s Our Two Skins was co-produced by John Congleton, Brad Cook, Ethan Gruska, Geoff Duncan, Matias Mora and Gordi herself across several sessions over the last few years. The album also features contributions from Irish singer-songwriter Soak, on the track ‘Lunch At Dune’, as well as Hadestown creator Anaïs Mitchell on ‘PVC Divide’. The Melbourne-based folktronica singer-songwriter will launch the album in October with a return to the Sydney Opera House; details for that, as well as other upcoming Australian shows, can be found below.
“Today, as I finally set this album free, I am reminded of its beginning,” said Gordi in a press statement. “Deep in the middle of the pandemic, I began writing the songs that would make up Like Plasticine, wondering what the purpose of music was at all. I tried to stop thinking and just feel.
“When I look back on that time now, sitting in Phoenix Central Park surrounded by things I could make music with, I see Like Plasticine arriving as though it was a fire hydrant erupting. Everything we try to contain comes out one way or another. Un-contain yourself, stop thinking, and just feel.”
Gordi – ‘Peripheral Lover’
Like Plasticine was pre-empted by the release of seven singles between October 2024 and July 2025. In chronological order, these were the aforementioned ‘Lunch At Dune’, ‘Alien Cowboy’, ‘Peripheral Lover’, ‘Cutting Room Floor’, ‘PVC Divide’, ‘GD (Goddamn)’ and ‘Head Rush’. In June, Gordi performed ‘Peripheral Lover’ on The Kelly Clarkson Show, making her solo network television debut.
Tomorrow (August 9th) will see Gordi play two solo shows in Sydney – one at 1pm, solo acoustic at HUM On King in Newtown, and one at 6pm on the rooftop of the Museum Of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Circular Quay as part of the museum’s Full Bloom Exhibition. She will then play another in-store in Melbourne and at Darwin Festival (alongside Sarah Blasko) before heading to the UK and Ireland for a run of shows. Upon her return, she will play at the Sydney Opera House on Friday, October 17th in the venue’s Playhouse – where she performed as part of Vivid LIVE circa 2022.
“Last time I launched an album in the Sydney Opera House, I played to no-one,” said Gordi. “Well, no-one physically in the room; just the whole internet, in the middle of deep lockdowns in 2020. I am flooded with excitement to play my first full-band show in Sydney celebrating the release of Like Plasticine. Come if you want to dance and cry at the same time.” Details for the show are below.
