Grammy-Winning Country Music Icon Jo-El Sonnier Dies at 77 After Onstage Performance

Grammy-winning Musician Jo-El Sonnier, who is known for his Cajun and country music died at the age of 77. The musician was on tour and sadly departed this world, as confirmed by Texas country music promoter Tracy Pitcox in a Facebook post on Sunday, 14th January.

The singer’s final performance at the Llano Country Opry in Texas was met with a standing ovation, as he entertained the audience for over an hour with his timeless tunes. He concluded the show with his signature song ‘Tear Stained Letter’ and an encore of ‘Jambalaya’.

Jo- El Sonnier left the stage on a high note and experienced cardiac arrest after the show. He was air-flighted to Austin, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The music promoter Tracy Pitcox shared his condolences for Jo-EL Sonnier.“It is never easy to lose a legend’ She said. “But he truly spent his final day doing what he loved — entertaining his fans with his loving wife, Bobbye, by his side.”

Jo-El Sonnier was born in 1946 to a French-speaking family in Rayne, Louisiana. His musical journey began early at the tender age of three, and he embraced the accordion, marking the start of a lifelong passion.

By the age of 11, he was making his first music recordings, demonstrating a talent that would earn him acclaim in the years to come. Jo-EL Sonnier will remembered for his independently recorded songs and albums, which led to the contribution of Cajun and Country music.
