Magnetic tapes, for example, can lose their data over time due to decay of the magnetic material. Similarly, optical media like CDs and DVDs can degrade due to scratching or deterioration of the dye layer. Digital storage media like hard drives and memory cards can also fail or become obsolete, leading to loss of data. Furthermore, file formats can become unreadable as technology progresses. To prevent this, it’s recommended to regularly digitize and back up important audio files.
