Rhythm and blues (often abbreviated as R&B) is a genre that was heavily influenced by both jazz and blues, among other music styles. However, R&B itself is not a form of jazz. It is a distinct genre that has more of an upbeat, lively rhythm and tends to use less improvisation, which is a key element of jazz music. But because of the common roots in blues, there are similarities between R&B and jazz, especially when you look at older forms of R&B and the work of artists who were influenced by both genres.
