    Popularity can be subjective and can vary depending on the region, time, and specific definition of “more popular”. However, in general terms, metal is often more popular than rock music. According to a study from Gracenote, metal is the most popular music genre in the world, followed by pop, then rock. Another study from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) states that metal and rock are the two most successful genres, but metal is more popular than rock. So, in most cases, metal is more popular than rock.
