Folk music has a rich history and has originated from various parts of the world. However, it’s generally agreed that it has deep roots in the cultures of the British Isles and spread globally as a result of migration and colonialism. Over time, folk music evolved and absorbed elements from the cultures of the various regions where it took hold, resulting in the diverse folk music traditions we see today. So, while it’s difficult to pinpoint an exact origin, it’s safe to say that it has its origins in the folk traditions of the British Isles and has since developed separately in many other regions.
