The Blues, a genre of music that originated in the Deep South of the United States around the end of the 19th century. It was heavily influenced by African spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, and chants, and European hymns, folk ballads, and popular music. The Blues, in its initial form, came from the African-American population in the Mississippi Delta region, around the towns of Memphis, Tennessee, and Clarksdale, Mississippi. The first recorded Blues music can be traced back to the 1920s.
