The term “classical music” is used to describe a longtime period of music history, primarily from the 1750s to the 1820s, known as the Classical period. It does not refer to music of the ancient Greeks and Romans, as the name might imply. The most prominent composers of the classical era include Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Johann Sebastian Bach, among many others.
