The first electronic dance music (EDM) artist is hard to pinpoint due to the genre’s evolution from disco, synth-pop, and house music in the late 70s and early 80s. However, one could argue that Giorgio Moroder, an Italian producer and DJ, is a significant early figure in EDM, having released the seminal track ‘Love Theme from “La Scarletta”‘ in 1978, which was an early example of electronic dance music. Other early EDM artists include Kraftwerk, Cerrone, and Patrick Cowley.
