The number of studio monitors you need can depend on a few factors, such as the size of your room and your budget. If you’re in a small room, you might be able to get away with just one monitor, although this is not typically recommended because it can be difficult to accurately mix sound in only one channel. Stereo imaging and being able to hear sound coming from different speakers is important for mixing.

However, most people prefer to use two studio monitors, as this gives a better sense of the sound field and makes it easier to mix. It also allows for a more accurate representation of the audio, especially when it comes to panning and the perception of distance and depth in the mix.

So, in general, it’s advisable to have two studio monitors, especially if you’re serious about mixing and mastering music. It is always better to have two identical monitors to ensure a consistent sound image, but budget constraints
