A condenser microphone is very good for certain situations. They are excellent at picking up high frequency sounds and provide a very detailed and accurate sound. They are usually used in a studio setting for vocals and musical instruments, or for podcasting. However, they tend to pick up a lot of background noise and need a power source, either from a battery or through phantom power from a mixer or interface.
