Hot 97 Names The Kid Mero As Ebro Morning Replacement—’Mero is New York’

Hot 97 names The Kid Mero as its new morning host, replacing the long-running Ebro in the Morning with Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez.

After parting ways with Ebro in the Morning and its hosts Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez last month, New York City hip-hop radio station Hot 97 has officially announced its new morning show roster. The Kid Mero will launch Hot 97 Mornings with Mero on Tuesday, January 13.

One of New York’s most recognizable contemporary voices in culture and media, Mero will host his show from 6 AM to 10 AM ET, beginning tomorrow morning. The Bronx native is a New York Times best-selling author and Writers Guild Award winner who currently hosts Victory Light with The Kid Mero and co-hosts 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony.

“Hot 97 is the station—it’s been the voice of NYC hip-hop and culture for decades,” said Mero. “I grew up listening to Hot 97, so to get the morning slot here isn’t just a job—it’s a responsibility to continue that legacy while bringing it into this next era of media. We’re gonna laugh, we’re gonna get into it, but it’s always gonna be real, and a real good time!”

“Hot 97 has always been about representing the culture of New York, and Mero is New York,” said Kudjo Sogadzi, EVP of Content & Growth at Hot 97 parent company MediaCo. “He’s authentic, hilarious, fearless, and deeply connected to the community. Hot 97 Mornings with Mero is going to set the tone for the city very morning and create must-listen moments for our audience.”

Mero’s new show comes on the heels of the station parting ways with Ebro in the Morning, which ran for almost 13 years. Ebro Darden implied online that he believed his show was cancelled over his outspoken “progressive” views, believing that MediaCo. was going through the process of “renew[ing] their deals and their licenses.”

Since Darden and his co-hosts’ exit, the morning show was temporarily hosted by Hot 97 DJs Miabelle, Shani Kulture, DJ Juanyto, and DJ Kast One, as well as Funkmaster Flex.
