Jeff Tweedy Continues Los Angeles Residency Ahead of Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky, Festival Updates and More

Lyrical excavator of the mundane, Jeff Tweedy, continued his Los Angeles residency at Largo at the Coronet on Monday evening. The concert was the second in a four-part series that began on Sunday and has included the encore entrance of his sons, key players on his latest studio effort, the triple album Twilight Override, and vocal reinforcement during dad’s most recent live appearance. Before the arrival of his second-generation assistants, Tweedy delivered a 13-song set that bestowed pieces of the past: luggage smacked with stickers that delineated association with Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Billy Bragg, Golden Smog, but most importantly, self. 

Tweedy’s concert on January 5 relied on the heat put off by WARM: “Don’t Forget” and “Having Been Is No Way to Be.” Next, he pulled out the Disc 1-featured “Sign of Life” from Twilight Override, before welcoming a wave of Wilco material, beginning with “ Please Be Patient With Me,” which represented a bust out that was last played by Tweedy in 2024, and ensued on “Passenger Side” and “Sunlight Ends.” Returning to his new solo set, “Love Is for Love” forged a path forward, before a sirenless “Ambulance.” 

Like night one, Tweedy saved a space for Mermaid Avenue–with the album’s 25th anniversary and subsequent Solid Sound performance looming in the near future–he landed on Woody Guthrie’s high altitude love song, “Remember the Mountain Bed.” He used the remainder of the set to ricochet through phases of time: Wilco’s “You and I,” Uncle Tupelo’s “New Madrid,” Golden Smog’s “Pecan Pie,” and set finisher, “Dreamer in My Dreams” off Being There. 

Following the previous night’s setlist structure, Tweedy brought out his boys for the encore, which began with a new number, “Forever Never Ends.” Spencer and Sammy sang with their dad on the Twilight Override call for peace, “Amar Bharati, before pensive “Ain’t It a Shame.” Sticking with Tweedy’s solo songbook, they gave weight to WARMER inclusion “Evergreen,” which towed the final features of night two, “Throwaway Lines” and “Enough.” 

Tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 7, Jeff Tweedy returns to the Los Angeles venue for his third concert in a four-part installment. After turning in his solo run, Tweedy will join Wilco for their destination concert event, Sky Blue Sky, Jan. 15-19, in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Ahead of the event, the lineup has shifted. According to the latest post on the event’s social media channels, “Due to scheduling conflicts, Cameron Winter will no longer be performing at Sky Blue Sky.” Stepping in for the member of Geese is Tweedy’s other frequented project, Golden Smog, featuring Gary Louris, Kraig Johnson, Dan Murphy, Marc Perlman, and “mystery drummer(s).”
