Jessica Mauboy Shares Reflective New Single ‘While I Got Time’

Jessica Mauboy has shared a new single, entitled ‘While I Got Time’. The Kuku Yalanji singer-songwriter worked with longtime collaborator PJ Harding (not to be confused with PJ Harvey) on the stand-alone track, with the pair co-writing together and Harding assuming sole production duties. Prior to its release, the song was featured in advertisements on Channel 7 for Home And Away, soundtracking the departure of longtime character Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger) after 33 years.

In a press statement, Mauboy noted that the song “really came from a place of reflection and release”. “PJ and I wrote it during a moment where I was thinking about what I want to leave behind, and what I want to lean into while I’m still here,” she said. “It’s [a song] about letting go of the past with grace, honouring where I’ve been, and stepping into the unknown with open arms.”

‘While I Got Time’ is also notable for being the first single on Mauboy’s new independent label, Jamally. In a further press statement, Mauboy described the move from her longtime home of Warner Music as “the start of a new chapter”. “Not just as a singer or performer, but as a storyteller and businesswoman too,” she said. “Creating Jamally felt like a natural evolution. It lets me work with people I trust, and chase what lights me up.”

Mauboy’s new single comes fresh from her recent debut on triple j‘s Like A Version segment. There, she performed a cover of Yothu Yindi‘s ‘World Turning’ as a part of NAIDOC Week for 2025, with a guest verse from Barkaa. She also performed her breakthrough single ‘Running Back’ as part of the segment. This weekend, Mauboy will head home to Darwin to appear at the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs). Not only will she be performing ‘While I Got Time’ live for the first time as part of the ceremony, she is also set to be the latest inductee into the NIMA Hall Of Fame.
