Last night, Waxahatchee leader Katie Crutchfield, her twin sister and Snocaps collaborator Alison and actress D’Arcy Carden celebrated their shared January 4 birthday with their second-annual Sweet Sixteen concert. After last year’s bash brought surprise guest appearances from Jeff Tweedy, Courtney Barnett, Aidy Bryant and more, the trio’s 2026 event established a tradition with a star-studded cast of friends signing on for a night of covers at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre.

The Crutchfields and Carden – backed by a house band of Colin Croom on guitar, Eric Slick on drums and Snocaps bandmate and co-producer Brad Cook on drums – set off the festivities with a treatment of The Strokes’ “Last Nite.” Their first guest was Will Forte, who followed up his feature in last year’s show to add his warbling baritone to The Cranberries’ “Dreams,” and later led a ripping treatment of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” Kevin Morby, who crooned through Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova,” and Whitmer Thomas, who helmed Sheryl Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy,” were also returning guests.

Other participants in the celebration included Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein, who drove Sonic Youth’s “Kool Thing”; actors and comedians Bowen Yang, Sam Richardson and Kyle Mooney (Kyle M in his musical career) on Phantom Planet’s “California,” Men at Work’s “Overkill” and New Radicals’ “You Get What You Give”; and rising indie-pop singer-songwriter Audrey Hobert’s resurrection of One Direction’s “Steal My Girl.” In one of the limited few video fan videos from the event, MUNA covers Peaches’ electroclash anthem “Fuck the Pain Away” with backup dancing from Yang and Hobert.

As with last year, 2026’s Sweet Sixteen show closed with a full-company cover of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” Read on for the full setlist.
