Katie and Alison Crutchfield Surprise-Release Snocaps Debut Album with MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook

Twin sisters Katie and Allison Crutchfield have reunited as Snocaps on a new surprise album.

Katie, the folk-rock powerhouse behind Waxahatchee, and Allison, of indie favorite Swearin’, first teased something new two weeks ago in polaroids taken with MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook. While it seemed safe to assume that the Crutchfields were forecasting their first shared project since the glory days of their indie-punk outfit P.S. Eliot, which ran from 2007-2011 and returned briefly in 2016, no one could’ve called that their reunion would arrive as a full album drop with no advance notice. 

Snocaps’ self-titled debut, released today via Anti-, is billed as a joint effort between Katie and Allison, with backing from Lenderman, who contributed to Waxahatchee’s 2024 album Tiger’s Blood, and Cook, who has been Katie’s go-to producer since 2020’s Saint Cloud. Cook engineered and produced the record, and all four artists play multiple instruments across tracks that merge the sisters’ songwriting styles in a tangle of glowy, heavy, warm indie-rock, with some subtle hints of their power-pop and punk background and Katie’s current Americana leanings.

In a press release, the Crutchfield twins noted that Snocaps was born from the desire to create together like they had in their teens and 20s. They also clarified that the band will deliver a fistful of live performances toward the end of this year, then retire for the foreseeable future. “Allison and I have been, in some way, shape or form, doing this together for over 20 years,” Katie said in a statement, so it’s likely that they’ll band together again for another venture soon enough.
