Kisschasy Share New Single ‘Parasite’, Continue To Tease Fourth Studio Album
Fresh off their triumphant Hymns For The Non-Believers anniversary lap around the country, Melbourne pop-punk veterans Kisschasy are back in the saddle with another taste of their long-awaited fourth LP.
Following on from comeback single ‘Lie To Me’, new track ‘Parasite’ finds the band doing what they do best — pairing Darren Cordeux’s instantly recognisable Aussie-inflected melodic drawl with insatiable guitars, crisp ’90s alt-rock energy, and just enough bite to keep things dangerous.
Kisschasy – ‘Parasite’
Lyrically, this one is a bittersweet ode to clinging on to something that you know is bad for you, whether that’s a toxic relationship, an old habit, or a vice you can’t shake.
“It’s about that moment where you realise something’s draining your life force but you still can’t let it go,” Cordeux explains in a press statement.
Musically, the band cite Blue Album-era Weezer, early Fountains of Wayne and even “a little Fugazi-flavoured riffage” as inspo.
Recorded between Melbourne’s Woodstock Studios with Richard Stolz and Cordeux’s own LA setup, the track was mixed in NYC by John O’Mahony (Coldplay, Metric) and kept intentionally raw.
“We used old tube amps, old tube mics, no autotune, very few effects,” Cordeux adds. “Perfection is boring anyway.”
Despite the distance — with members now split between Melbourne and LA — Kisschasy’s chemistry remains as potent as it was when they first emerged from Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. And with Aussie newcomers like Slowly Slowly, Sly Withers, and Dear Seattle carrying the torch for heartfelt Aussie punk rock, the band’s influence feels more relevant than ever.
Kisschasy will give ‘Parasite’ its live debut when they hit BIGSOUND this September, playing the Oztix Official After-Party at The Brightside on Thursday, 4th September.
For fans hanging out for the big reveal, consider this your latest breadcrumb on the trail to album number four. Take ‘Parasite’ for a spin up above.
