LG Launches LG Radio+ for Smart TVs—Will It Catch On?
LG launches podcast and radio-streaming service LG Radio+ for its smart TVs.
LG Electronics has announced a radio and podcast-streaming service for its smart TVs, LG Radio+. But unlike other big consumer tech companies, who have launched their own music services before casting them off in favor of partnerships with existing DSPs, LG is doing things a little differently.
The ad-supported audio streaming service is a partnership with the Radioline platform, which will make live radio stations and podcasts available to LG Radio+ users. “This new service allows users to effortlessly access a diverse selection of podcasts and radio programs,” says LG.
“For a streamlined user experience, LG Radio+ will work with the LG ThinQ app, providing users with a convenient way to access and enjoy their favorite audio content no matter where they are in the room,” the company adds.
The accessibility through the LG ThinQ app will also enable “enjoyable audio streaming on LG audio devices with minimal effort.” Later this year, LG Radio+ will also be available through the “My” button on xboom speakers.
Initially offered only in the U.S. and Korea, LG smart TV users can now explore a range of live stations and podcasts. These include popular local stations in Korea; and NPR, CNN Radio, Fox Radio, or The Joe Rogan Experience in the U.S.
Owners of LG smart TVs in the United States and Korea can access the LG Radio+ app from the Content Store and Apps. They can also access it through the voice search function on their LG Magic Remote.
The platform promises an intuitive interface with a comprehensive channel list containing popular audio channels on the On Air page with a personalized selection of favorites. Despite the company’s announcement focusing predominantly on talk radio and podcasts, music is a big part of the rollout too. The LG Radio+ Featured page will provide a dynamic view of trending music, updated in real-time to highlight popular or seasonal hits.
LG Radio+ currently offers a library of over 14,500 channels in the United States and over 440 in Korea.
