Live Nation Entertainment has acquired Team Event, the New Zealand-based events producer renowned for staging Electric Avenue.

This strategic move puts the Electric Avenue music festival into the Live Nation portfolio and grows its presence in Australasia and further growth in the Southern Hemisphere. Electric Avenue, held each year in Christchurch since 2015, has consistently drawn crowds exceeding 40,000 with headliners including Lorde, The Chemical Brothers, Flume, and The Prodigy.

“This partnership with Live nation is an incredible opportunity to secure the long-term future of our business,” adds Team Event Director Callam Mitchell. “Access to the talent and expertise from such a large global organization will only take us to new heights. The past 15 years of building this business has been a journey of blood, sweat, and tears but a journey we’re incredibly proud of, and this acquisition is a recognition of that.”

“Electric Avenue is a testament to what local grit and vision can create—a world-class live music experience,” adds Live Nation New Zealand Managing Director Mark Kneebone. “We are excited to partner with Callam and Team Event to take Electric Avenue and its festival brands to the next level, giving fans even greater access to local and international talent while supporting the future growth and success of this iconic New Zealand festival.”

Team Event doesn’t only produce Electric Avenue. Other events on their roster include the South Island Wine & Food Festival, the Great Kiwi Beer Festival, Nostalgia Festival, and the Live in the Park concert series. The acquisition is expected to allow these and other events to tap into Live Nation’s considerable international resources and artist network. Electric Avenue itself is set for expansion, with aims to exceed 100,000 total attendees by 2027, signaling strong growth prospects in New Zealand’s live event sector.

Live Nation’s strategy is not limited to New Zealand and the South Pacific. The company recently expanded its Latin American footprint, announcing the purchase of an additional 24% stake in OCESA, Mexico’s largest live concert promoter, for approximately $646 million. This brings Live Nation’s stake up to 75%, cementing its influence in Mexico’s rapidly burgeoning live music market.
