Her Madgesty has spoken. Madonna took to social media on Thursday (June 5) to give fans insight into her forthcoming EDM remix album Veronica Electronica.
“Making my Ray of Light album was a seminal moment in my life as an artist,” the Queen of Pop wrote on her Instagram Stories, referencing the mystical, techno-fueled 1998 studio set that is often credited with helping bring electronica into mainstream music, thanks to the success of singles like “Frozen,” “Nothing Really Matters,” “The Power of Good-Bye” and the Grammy-winning title track.
“I was going through a huge metamorphosis,” the pop icon continued. “I had just given birth to my daughter Lola, I had found my spiritual path and I was ready to shed a new skin and take a road less traveled by.”
Madonna went on to explain that she “ventured into electronic music” with help from Ray of Light producer William Orbit and was inspired by the experience to create “an alter ego” using the name she adopted upon her confirmation into the Catholic church as a child. “And Veronica Electronica was born. Meet my other half,” she concluded, punctuating the declaration with a winking, tongue-out emoji.
In subsequent posts, the star shared a black-and-white photo of herself along with an AI-generated video announcing Veronica Electronica as “the long-awaited remix album from the Ray of Light era.”
On Thursday morning, Madonna announced the July 25 release date for the long-rumored project, which will contain eight rare and unreleased remixes from that album, including new edits of “Drowned World/Substitute for Love,” “Ray of Light” and “Sky Fits Heaven” and the original demo version of “Gone, Gone, Gone.” To kick off the rollout, she dropped a first taste of the LP with “Skin (The Collaboration Remix Edit).”
