Madonna & Sickick’s ‘Frozen’ Update Debuts on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart
Madonna and Sickick debut at No. 20 on Billboard‘s multimetric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Dec. 18) with an update of her ’90s hit “Frozen.” The new version, whose profile has grown thanks in part to TikTok, starts with 496,000 U.S. streams and 1,800 sold in the week ending Dec. 9, according to MRC Data, following its Dec. 3 release.
“Frozen” marks Madonna’s highest Hot Dance/Electronic Songs rank since “B**** I’m Madonna” (No. 5 peak, July 2015). It’s her fifth total appearance on the list, which began in January 2013; she has also charted with “Living for Love” (No. 9, 2015), “Unapologetic Bitch” (No. 22, 2015) and “I Don’t Search I Find” (No. 30, 2020).
“Frozen” concurrently bows at No. 5 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, tying “Living for Love” for her best placement since the chart began in 2010.
The original “Frozen,” which Madonna and Patrick Leonard co-produced with pioneering electronic artist William Orbit, and which Madonna and Leonard co-wrote, reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1998. It was released as the lead single from her Ray of Light opus, which also reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
For Sickick, “Frozen” follows “I Can Feel It,” a DJ-mixed combination of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” and Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” (whose originals hit Nos. 19 and 3 on the Hot 100 in 1981 and 1992, respectively). The mash-up rises 14-13 in its second week on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, adding top Sales Gainer honors (4,900, up 31%), as it holds at No. 2 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales.
‘GAMES’ BEGINS Additionally on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Grimes earns her 14th hit with “Player of Games” (No. 19). It’s her third-highest debut, after “You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around” (No. 10, March 2020) and “4AEM” (No. 18, December 2019). “Games” drew 766,000 U.S. streams and sold 500 downloads, also good for a No. 12 bow on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales.
‘AGAIN’ AND AGAIN Further on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, David Guetta, MORTEN and Roland Clark arrive with “Alive Again” (No. 36). It’s Guetta’s landmark 60th appearance, extending his lead for the most among all acts; Kygo is next with 54. “Alive,” the eighth appearance for MORTEN (the last seven of which are collabs with Guetta) and the first for Clark, captured 334,000 streams.
RECAPPING THE ‘FUTURE’ On the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, Kim Petras propels to her first top 10 with “Future Starts Now” (12-8). The track is netting core-dance play at leaders MusicChoice’s Dance/EDM Channel, SiriusXM’s BPM and KMVQ-HD2 San Francisco, among others. (The chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on nearly 80 top 40-formatted reporters.)
