Meet Me @ The Altar just released their single “Feel A Thing,” a song that features bright and playful electronic beats to match the distorted guitar riffs. The track makes you feel like you’ve been suddenly dropped into a video game from the ’80s. You’re stuck trying to survive, encouraged by the energetic and optimistic vocals from lead singer Edith Johnson.
The track offers up catchy hooks and melodies in juxtaposition with the massive drum beats and fast-paced guitar. Johnson both motivates and invigorates, showing how a sound can be powerful and silky smooth—all at the same time.
“Feel A Thing” comes from Meet Me @ The Altar’s upcoming major-label EP debut, Model Citizen. The record features six tracks and arrives Aug. 13 via Fueled By Ramen.
The collection of songs all examine the difficulties of trying to find yourself while also attempting to uncover the purpose of life. It delves into the complexities of dealing with your past while both confronting your present and trying to control your future.
The trio met serendipitously over the internet, with Campbell from Florida, Juarez from New Jersey and Johnson from Georgia. Campbell discovered Juarez through her cover of a twenty one pilots song, and the two decided to start a band. When Johnson auditioned to be the singer and didn’t make it, she stayed persistent until 2017 when she eventually got the gig.
“We are writing new stuff right now,” Johnson told Alternative Press in March. “It’s still very Meet Me @ The Altar, but it’s also very mature and still very energetic. It’s still very positive-sounding and very happy and maybe more melodic.”
Meet Me @ The Altar were signed to Fueled By Ramen in October when they decided to re-release their popular track “Garden.” “Garden” was originally released in June amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The drop was meant as an ode to the trio’s fans during the trying times.
“It was out before and was really popular when we released it,” Campbell told AltPress. “The Fueled By Ramen team felt very connected to it, as well. We love it, and we feel like it’s an important song for people to hear, especially right now with COVID and other emotional things happening. We want people to know there are people that are going to be there for you and to support you emotionally. We’ve all felt like people need to hear that we’re going to be there for you. There are people in your life who are there for you. And it’s OK to not be OK, but know you have support around you.”
