Jazz music has its origins in New Orleans, Louisiana, around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was heavily influenced by African and European music, as well as blues and ragtime. The exact person who invented jazz is not known, as it is more accurately the result of a cultural blend. However, some of the earliest known jazz musicians include Buddy Bolden, Freddie Keppard, and the members of theOriginal Dixieland Jass Band.
The blues, on the other hand, can be traced back to the African-American work songs and spirituals of the Deep South in the late 19th century. The first published blues song was “I Got the Blues” by Antonio “Hoagie” Carmichael in 1908. The style was further developed by artists like Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, and Robert Johnson.
