The oldest known Western classical music dates back to the 11th century, around the year 1000. These are the Notre Dame school Grace notes, also known as the French organum. The most notable composers of this era are Lewis the German and his uncle, Odo of Beauvais. This music is also considered the first polyphonic music in the Western world.
