Mikaela Davis Blows Out The Candles and Makes a Wish on “11:11,” New Single and Official Visualizer

Mikaela Davis has shared her latest, wish-drenched solo effort. The classically trained harpist, who released her sophomore album, And Southern Star, in 2023, followed up today with “11:11,” a new single that places a golden halo over her panache for pithy lines that effectively elevate her ethereal vocals and angelic musical style. The new song arrived alongside an official visualizer, which enriches the takeaway with actions that complement the lyrics. 

Davis wrote the track with assistance from her collaborator and Grateful Shed bandmate, guitarist John Lee Shannon, who also directed the video. The song and its visual counterpart blend fantasy, memory, and myth to circumvent reality with desire. As Davis demonstrates in the video, blowing out candles carries a weightier meaning than just turning out the lights; it’s the extension of want, elicited through the ritualistic traditions associated with making a wish at 11:11 or blowing all the seedheads off a dandelion in one blow. 

Recorded at Grateful Shred co-founder, Dan Horne’s UHF Studio in Glendale, Calif., “11:11” beckons an awakening of sorts for Davis, as she enters the next phase of her solo tenure after cutting Might as Well and receiving official member status in Horne and Austin McCutchen’s Los Angeles-based Grateful Dead cover band. Davis’ new Kill Rock Stars effort showcases her range as a musician and singer, with the capacity to step in and out of projects and bring out the best of her talents alongside whoever she’s working with.
