My Morning Jacket Open With “Honest Man” for First Time Since 2000, Welcome Devon Gilfillian

On Saturday, Nov. 4, My Morning Jacket brought their fall tour to the Fox Theater in Atlanta. The night began with a starter frame from Devon Gifillian, who later on sat in with his host for a single song during the main frame. Before the collaborative moment, MMJ started out the night with “Honest Man,” performed as an opener for the first time since Nov. 19, 2000, during a hometown show in Louisville, Ky. 

After the sought-after start, MMJ followed with “Compound Fracture” and “Spring (Among the Living” before offering a tout debut of “Aluminum Park” from their Evil Urges set. “Lay Low” and “Hopefully” ensued, and then the band brought out Gilfillian to assist on “Only Memories Remain” for a lively collaboration.

The group worked through added material, including “I’m Amazed,” “Least Expected,” and “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2.” Then, they nodded to their The Waterfall II album, playing “Wasted” before picking up “Picture of You,” “Dondante” and “Off the Record.” For the final song of the main frame, Jim James headed “Love Love Love” and “Anytime,” ultimately closing the 17-song set on “Evil Urges.”

For the night’s encore, MMJ started with “Tropics (Erase Traces)” before following up with “The Way That He Sings” and “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 1.” For their final display, the band delivered “Wordless Chorus.” After Saturday’s concert, MMJ will resume their touring schedule on Nov. 7 at the Stiefel Theatre in St. Louis.
