After 15 long years, Perth heavyweights Pendulum are back with a new album announcement. The heavy drum and bass icons’ fourth studio LP, dubbed Inertia, is due to reach our ears on Friday, 22nd August.

The news comes soundtracked by our first taste of the LP, an aggressive, breakbeat-powered electro-industrial rampager dubbed ‘Save The Cat’ (listen below), which features singer Rob Swire going ham on the heavy vocals.

Pendulum – ‘Save The Cat’

“It was written during a period of self-questioning and frustration,” Swire says of the single. “Love felt like something I didn’t fully trust myself with anymore.”

Describing the track as “a pure screamo anthem”, the band’s official press release elaborates on the circumstances that inspired ‘Save The Cat’, adding that it came in the wake of two breakups that Swire endured — “one that unravelled slowly over time, and another that hit without warning”.

‘Save The Cat’ is one of a whopping 16 tracks on Pendulum’s forthcoming LP, which was co-produced by Swire alongside Owen Charles in London.

It includes eight previously-released songs from the group’s 2021 Elemental and 2023 Anima EPs, as well as eight freshies.

Also packing big-ticket collaborations with Bullet For My Valentine, Wargasm, AWOLNATION, Scarlxrd, Joey Valence & Brae and Hybrid Minds, Inertia is being billed as Pendulum’s most personal work to date.

“It’s the sound of Pendulum finding themselves again, and me figuring myself out to a certain extent,” Swire adds. “Breakups do that – they strip things down and show you who you are. I’m just trying not to become the guy who needs to go through one just to make a record.”
