Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Announce Initial Fall Tour Dates Following Highly Collaborative Run with The Infamous Stringdusters and Melt

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have announced their initial Fall Tour dates. The group, known for its jam/funk tendencies, will begin the run on October 3 at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, N.C. It will follow up at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, N.C., before sliding into Boston for three nights on the Paradise Rock Club stage on October 24-26. The band’s latest tour announcement follows amalgamated live appearances with The Infamous Stringdusters, Melt, and other special guests. 

Before Pigeon’s Fall Tour announcement, the band engaged in a series of joint live dates, five nights in total featuring the Stringdusters and support from Melt. The concert sequence began on May 29 at Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton Beach, N.H., and commenced a nightly sit-in that struck the collaborative nature of the multi-band run. During PPPP’s first evening on stage, they welcomed The Infamous Stringdusters’ Andy Hall to join on fan favorite “Poseidon,” which he added Dobro to. 

During Pigeon’s follow-up set on May 30 at The Stone Pony, the group brought the Stringdusters for the evening’s encore of the Rolling Stones’ “Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Also, at this location, the band brought out regional artist and member of Dogs in a Pile, Brian Murray, who contributed to “Lightning.” 

Their Syaracus, N.Y., gig on May 31 did not include help; instead, they opted for an even bigger display during their June 1 arrival in Westport, Conn. During Sunday’s PPPP set, the band welcomed Pandolfi on “Fall in Place” before swapping out assistance and bringing Eggy guitarist, Jake Brownstein, up for The Who’s “Eminence Front.” The night culminated in a collective finish after a debut of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” with the Stringdusters, Melt’s Veronica Stewart-Frommer, and Marlo Shankweiler. 

The joint tour ended after last night’s performance in Deerfield, Mass., which closed with PPPP’s take on Paul Simon’s famed “You Can Call Me Al.”
