Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk Announces the End of Live Performances: “Will Not be Touring or Playing Live Again”

Drummer Brad Wilk has delivered a somber message on Instagram, signaling the end of Rage Against the Machine’s live performances. In a post on Wednesday, Wilk addressed the anticipation surrounding new tour dates after the cancellation of Rage Against the Machine shows, stating, “I don’t want to string people or myself along any further.” He clarified that the band, including members Tim Commerford, Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, and himself, “will not be touring or playing live again.”

The announcement follows the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2023, with Morello being the sole attendee at the ceremony. Morello acknowledged differing perspectives within the band–which prompted a surprised response from the band upon their nomination–but emphasized the importance of celebrating the music and the mission, urging fans to carry on the band’s message.

Rage Against the Machine, known for their intense and politically charged music, initially disbanded in 2000 before reuniting in 2007. They experienced a second breakup in 2011. Despite expressing regret to fans awaiting yet another return, Wilk confirmed the disheartening news: “I am sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”

The band’s plans to reunite in 2019 were delayed by the pandemic, and a subsequent tour in 2022 faced challenges when la Rocha suffered a serious leg injury. Despite soldiering through the initial leg of the tour, the European shows and a second leg of U.S. tour dates were canceled to allow de la Rocha sufficient time to heal.
