Next week, on Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, Reprise will pay tribute to Phish’s esteemed 1997 Texas run when they return to Brooklyn Bowl New York. During the upcoming performances, the band, which includes Goose drummer Cotter Ellis, will also pay homage to the late backbeat Bob Gullotti, who sat in with Phish on three occasions, including two concerts during their aforementioned ‘97 Lone Star State stint.

Feeding off the energy and spirit of the improvisationally heavy ‘97 gigs, dubbed the dawn of the Vermont band’s defining cow-funk era, Reprise will deliver performances that elicit a familiar fusion of hefty grooves, stretch out instrumental tête-à-têtes, and explosive improvisations.

The gigs will also serve as tributes to Gullotti, who joined Phish on October 23, 1996, at the Hartford Civic Center for the entire second set and encore, and during their July 25 and 26, 1997 shows in Dallas and Austin, respectively.

Gullotti was also a member of Trey Anastasio’s free jazz Surrender to the Air project, taking part in the studio project and concerts at New York’s Academy of Music, April 1-2, 1996.

During Reprise’s concerts at the Bowl, Ellis will take on Gullotti’s parts. “We felt that Cotter, one of the most energetic and experimental drummers out there, would add a perfect layer to what we do out there,” says Reprise keyboardist Scott Chasolen.

“For our second appearance at Brooklyn Bowl, we wanted to play something from the ‘97 era,” Chasolen extends. “We can pay tribute to both these amazing shows and the incredible late drummer– it’s also a little unexpected and different, in the true spirit of Phish!”

“It’s an honor to be able to play with the Reprise dudes,” says Ellis. “I’ve been a fan of all of them individually for years and to be able to add my voice to this killing band is really exciting.”
