From Aug. 14-16, titanic acts from the worlds of Americana, indie-rock and jam congregated at 7000 above sea level for Park City Song Summit, the innovative music and wellness event quickly becoming a mainstay of the summer festival circuit. At the intimate and inspiring program’s fifth annual presentation, esteemed acts like Goose, Greensky Bluegrass, Marcus King, Eric Krasno, Duane Betts and more leaned into the festival’s collaborative and hospitable atmosphere, producing genre-bending live team-ups that won’t be soon forgotten.
Among the weekend’s busiest performers was Rick Mitarotonda. Beyond his headline set with Goose and his “American Rock ‘n’ Roll Band In 2025” panel discussion with bandmate Peter Anspach, Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith and Eric Krasno, the rapidly rising musician found the time to sit-in with both the Terrapin Family band and LP Giobbi.
Sans bandleader Grahame Lesh, who called out of the festival for urgent family circumstances the Terrapin Family Band of Ross James, Jason Crosby and Alex Koford welcomed frequent collaborators Eric Krasno, Adam MacDougall, Jennifer Hartswick and Nicki Bluhm to reanimate the music of the Grateful Dead on Saturday, Aug. 16. After rousing treatments of “Deal” and “Ramble on Rose,” the tribute supergroup bolstered their lineup even further with the inclusion of Mitarotonda, who led renditions of “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and “Brown-Eyed Women” with his powerful vocals and guitar. Mitarotonda’s guest spot preceded some fiery improvisation on “Bertha,” “Althea” and “Stella Blue” before high Rocky Mountain winds forced an early conclusion to the set.
Goose headlined on Saturday night with two exhilarating sets to conclude the three-day festival, save for a final late-night set from piano house firebrand LP Giobbi. Mitarotonda took Park City Song Summit’s last note as an opportunity for an encore, joining at mid-set to complement her electronic explorations with some live guitar improvisation. This genre-bending crossover followed a similar sit-in during the DJ’s Dead House set on the Crania stage at Viva El Gonzo, as well as LP Giobbi’s remix of Goose’s “Arrow” and Goose’s remix of LP Giobbi’s “All I Need,” which both arrived on streaming last week.
Goose will return to the stage on Aug. 28 with a staging at the University of Iowa, then progress into 18 further tour dates plotted through to Dec. 13. Find tickets and more information at https://www.goosetheband.com/tour
