Sam Holt, the late Michael Houser’s guitar tech with early aughts ties to Widespread Panic, has unveiled a trio of August tour dates, which are slated to begin tomorrow, Thursday, August 7, at Swanson’s Warehouse in Greenville, S.C. As is tradition, the slate of live shows arrives around Houser’s August 10 death date, and provides the Sam Holt Band an opportunity to pay homage to his musical collaborator.

Following the guitarist’s time in the Palmetto State, Holt will keep up with his live schedule by arriving at the 500-capacity Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, August 8. The third and final concert for Holt’s annual August run will take him back to Widespread Panic’s Georgia home state, for an evening at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta, on Saturday, August 9.

Holt’s roots in the jam scene extend back to 2000, when he secured the coveted role as Houser’s guitar tech, during the height of Widespread Panic’s popularity. Houser was instrumental in encouraging Holt to play his own music. Houser passed away in 2002, following a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer.

Holt continued working with Widespread Panic, and even appeared on stage on occasion, lending lead guitar during the Peach State band’s 2006 Summer Tour. He also started his own band, Outformation, which put out three albums: Tennessee Before Daylight (2005), Traveler’s Rest (2007) and Fastburn (2009).

Tickets for Holt’s tour are on sale now via samholtband.com/shows.
