Snoop Dogg recently appeared on a podcast voicing concerns about family entertainment after he watched the 2022 film ‘Lightyear’ with his grandson in theaters.

During a recent interview on the ‘It’s Giving’ podcast, Snoop Dogg explained that his grandson was visibly affected by the scene involving two female characters sharing a kiss, questioning the Doggfather on how the couple had a baby. The rapper focused on his remarks on his reaction to the scene and his discomfort with addressing such topics unexpectedly as a grandparent.

Around the 31-minute mark of the podcast, Snoop says, “Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman.” Snoop pauses and continues, “Oh shit, I didn’t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie. Hey man, watch the movie. They just said she and she had a baby. They both women. How does she have a baby?”

“Now I’m scared to go to the movies,” Snoop continues. “Like y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for. What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere. I didn’t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie. It threw me for a loop. These are kids, should we be showing this at this age? They’re going to have questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ was drawn both support and criticism for its inclusion of an LGBTQ storyline, specifically the first same-sex kiss shown in a Disney movie. The moment was originally removed by Disney, but later reinstated after Pixar professionals revolted. The film was banned in the United Arab Emirates and other Muslim countries for depicting this kiss.

Snoop’s comments have drawn the ire of online commenters, with some calling his remarks outdated and homophobic. Another suggested that Snoop missed the opportunity to teach his grandson. “Kids will ask questions—they’re supposed to learn from us, not inherit our discomfort,” reads one comment. Regardless, Snoop’s comments about the 2022 movie have re-ignited a fierce debate online.
