Only problem? It wasn’t actually Snoop — it was his official doppelgänger, Eric Finch, sent in to bamboozle the city ahead of the rapper’s AFL Grand Final appearance.

After days of whispers and blurry “Snoop sightings,” Finch was unmasked on Thursday night at the Corner Hotel in Richmond, where he mingled with fans, posed for photos, and basically lived his best faux-Dogg life. With the uncanny looks and mannerisms down pat, it’s easy to see why the city did a double take.

The stunt ties into Snoop’s partnership with 19 Crimes Cali – the wine label that celebrates rule-breaking and rebellion – and the brand’s plans for a stacked Grand Final Afterparty, where the real Snoop will drop a DJ set alongside Mowgli May. Fans who spot Finch cruising Melbourne this week can share their #CaliBySnoopSightings for a shot at afterparty tickets.

Meanwhile, the real Snoop Dogg’s set at the AFL grand final is set to start at 1:43pm (AEST) today – a little under one hour before the first bounce between Geelong and Brisbane.

“It’s an absolute honour to be hitting the stage at the AFL Grand Final — it’s one of the biggest events on the Aussie calendar,” The D-O-double-G said in a press statement.
