Spotify teams up with Waymo to bring a personalized audio experience to riders in select cities across the U.S.

Spotify has announced a partnership with self-driving robotaxi company Waymo to bring riders in select cities access to their own audio libraries. Waymo riders in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles can now seamlessly connect to their Spotify accounts to listen to their music or podcasts and audiobooks en route.

To connect to your Spotify account, you can get started either before your ride or in the middle of it, but the instructions are slightly different. Setting it up beforehand seems to allow you to have your Spotify account pre-loaded each time you use the Waymo service.

Before your ride, open the Waymo app and select Spotify from the Music preferences. Follow the prompts and log in to your Spotify account (or create a new one) to connect it to your Waymo account. During your ride, you can connect to your Spotify account at any time by selecting Spotify from the in-car screen and scanning the QR code.

Once linked, you’ll have access to your Spotify library, allowing you to control playback, browse content, and discover new tracks either from your phone or the in-car screen with ease.

To celebrate the launch, Spotify tapped hip-hop star and Bay Area-native Saweetie for the occasion, who remarked: “Pull up, play ‘boffum,’ and let the car drive? That’s Icy energy! I’m hyped for my fans to ride in style with Waymo and stream my new single on Spotify while they cruise. This collab is straight vibes.”

Spotify says their goal is to create a “truly frictionless listening experience for all of our users—wherever they are and however they choose to listen.” The audio streaming giant adds that it has integrations in nearly 30 automotive brands. “Our partnership with Waymo builds upon our commitment to redefine listening in the car for both drivers and passengers.”
