Los Angeles police confirm no charges have been made in the curious case of the body of a teenager found in the trunk of d4vd’s car back in September.
The investigation into the body of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez, which was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to musician d4vd back in September, has drawn loads of speculation on social media. However, Los Angeles police said that so far, the only crime confirmed in the case (which remains without suspects) may be the concealment of the body.
On Thursday (November 6), the LAPD issued a statement to KTLA updating them on the status of the investigation. Authorities stood by their press release on September 29, which stated that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner had not yet determined the cause or manner of Hernandez’s death. Therefore, it remains unclear whether any criminal culpability took place beyond the concealment of her body.
So far, the LAPD has not been able to identify or conclude any foul play in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, and hasn’t named d4vd or anyone else as a suspect. According to KTLA legal analyst Alison Triessl, concealing an accidental death is a misdemeanor in California that constitutes a maximum of one year in county jail and a $10,000 fine.
In order to qualify as a crime, there must be an active effort to conceal the body; failing to report an accidental death is not itself a crime. The Los Angeles County District Attorney reportedly confirmed that their office has not received a case submission regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, the results of Celese Rivas Hernandez’s autopsy have yet to be revealed, and therefore her cause of death has not been confirmed. Questions abound surrounding the absence of charges, arrests, or even suspects. Needless to say, it appears the matter is still a very delicate and complex one for armchair internet sleuths and investigators alike.
D4vd’s burgeoning fandom appears split on the issue, with his subreddit in active revolt after he began deleting posts. Some fans aware of the incident created a new subreddit to discuss the aspects of D4vd’s relationship with the missing teen rather than his music. Alleged screenshots of conversations between D4vd and Celeste and instances of her appearing on his social media accounts and with his family are being documented.
