NSW Police have launched a manhunt for Sydney rapper YC Ewzy (real name Harley Johan) in connection to the fatal shooting of Nadal Acherkouk at a Surry Hills petrol station last year.

Authorities allege the victim Acherkouk, whom they say may have had links to organised crime, was ambushed by two masked gunmen in November 2023 after leaving a nearby Turkish restaurant. He was shot in broad daylight while running between petrol pumps on Cleveland Street, before collapsing at a pedestrian crossing.

Strike Force detectives say the offenders fled in a stolen Porsche that was later torched in Kingsford, before escaping in a second stolen car.

Johan, 31, is believed to currently be overseas.

The rapper – who released a track called ‘Reckless’ in March featuring masked gunmen in its music video – is now at the centre of an ongoing homicide probe.

Acherkouk, who had previously survived an attempted kidnapping outside a Sydney gym, was known to police for alleged ties to the Comanchero bikie gang.

His killing was described by investigators last year as “outrageous” and “recklessly indifferent” to public safety, with the cops also declaring him the 27th person to be killed in Sydney’s gangland conflict since 2020.

As the investigation continues, anyone with information about the location of Johan should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
