Taylor Swift Dominates ARIA Charts for Second Week; Pete Murray Lands Highest Local Debut

The reign of Taylor Swift is only just beginning.

For a second straight week, the US superstar’s 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, has topped the ARIA Albums Chart, which means Swift has now spent a total of 70 weeks at #1 across 14 albums, starting with her third record, Speak Now, in 2010.

The top five remains unchanged from last week, with the exception being Australian favourite Pete Murray, who has landed at #5 with his seventh LP, Longing, scoring the highest local debut of the week. The album is Murray’s first since 2017’s Camacho.

“I’m honestly blown away. Thank you to everyone who’s listened, shared the record, grabbed a copy or told a friend, it really means the world,” Murray said on Friday.

“What makes this moment even more special is that this is my first fully independent album in 20 years and here I am, this far into my career, still making music that connects with so many. Thanks to all of you for supporting me every step of the way over all these years. To reach number one is a very special (and awesome!) thing!”

Meanwhile, Gold Coast singer-songwriter Lyric has hit the chart for the very first time with her second EP, The Art Of Falling First, debuting at #9, Baker Boy’s second studio album, DJANDJAY, has reached #13, and former Noiseworks and INXS lead singer, Jon Stevens, has debuted at #30 with his 11th solo album, Shimmer.

Over the on the Singles chart, though Swift doesn’t have the top 12 songs on the list this time around, she does boast eight of the ten, again leading with “The Fate of Ophelia” for a consecutive week.

The highest new entry, “Eyes Closed”, is from BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and former One Direction member Zayn, which debuted at #47.
