Halloween is just under a month away, which means it’s time to start brushing up on your horror movie knowledge.

You can stream each movie mentioned via Amazon Prime Video with a subscription to Prime which goes for $14.99 a month. With this subscription, you’ll also have access to hit TV shows and Amazon Originals. Keep reading to see our horror film picks from over the years that you can watch right now on Prime Video.
Nosferatu by Robert Eggers created quite the stir when it was released in 2024. The film is currently included with a Prime membership, meaning you won’t have to pay an extra fee to rent or buy. The gothic horror flick reimagines the vampiric classic with help from talents like Lily Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bill Skarsgård and Nicholas Hoult. It’s dark, moody and very creepy — everything you want to see in a horror film.
Get Out is a 2017 horror classic and serves as Jordan Peele’s directorial debut. The horror-meets-black-comedy movie is currently available with an add-on subscription to HBO Max, or to rent for $3.79. You can also buy the film so you can re-watch it whenever you’d like for just $7.99, originally $14.99. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya alongside Allison Williams and Lil Rel Howery.
James Wan is well known for his work in the horror space, and his most famous film has got to be 2010’s Insidious. The movie is currently available with an add-on subscription to HBO Max or to rent for $3.89. You can also buy the flick for $16.29. Starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Barbara Hershey, the film centers around a family of three who are gripped with fear when they’re led to believe their new home is haunted by malevolent spirits.
While the OG 1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic, and one of our favorites, the 2003 version doesn’t get enough love. The film is currently available to rent for $3.99 or buy for $9.99. It’s the same premise as any good old slasher. A group of teenagers, played by the likes of Jessica Biel, Jonathan Tucker and Erica Leerhsen, stumble across an isolated rural home while driving through Texas. Unfortunately for them, that home just so happens to be inhabited by the killer Leatherface and his crazed family of deranged backwoods killers.
Scream is another horror classic that we think is a must-watch. The 1996 Wes Craven film is currently available to rent for $3.70 or buy for $14.99. The film centers around a series of mysterious deaths that befall a small town and a group of teens at the center of it all, specifically Sydney Prescot, famously played by Neve Campbell. It’s another bloody good slasher, but it’s loads of fun, given it pokes major fun at “slasher” tropes throughout.
Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 classic The Shining is a masterclass in horror full stop. You can rent via Amazon for $3.99 and buy for $14.99. Kubrick is a film legend, but does particularly well when it comes to creating an unsettling vibe a la Eyes Wide Shut and A Clockwork Orange. The Shining is no exception, brought to life by acts like Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers. The film is based on the novel by Stephen King and centers around a family who volunteer to look after a hotel off-season. The isolation slowly drives the father Jack Torrance, played by Nicholson, insane.
Suspiria is a 1977 Italian film translated into English and directed by Dario Argento. It can be accessed via a channel add-on called Screambox for $4.99 a month with Prime Video. The 2018 remake is also available on Amazon with a Prime subscription. The supernatural horror film stars Jessica Harper and follows an American dancer’s journey to becoming a professional ballerina at an intense German ballet school.
