The Buoys Return With ‘Bitch’, Share National Tour Dates
The Buoys have returned with their first new music in over a year – a stand-alone single entitled ‘Bitch’. The Sydney-based indie rock band recorded the new track with Royel Otis and Ruby Fields producer Chris Collins at his Byron Bay studio, and co-wrote the song with Sydney-based producer and songwriter Alistair Hayes – who also makes his own music under the moniker of Daphnie.
In a press statement, Zoe Catterall – the band’s lead vocalist, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and founder – explains that the song’s origin stemmed not from her songwriting session with Hayes, but what happened on the way to it. “That day, I was dealing with the classic case of [a] ‘they’ll call you a bitch, [be]cause it’s easier than taking accountability for their actions’-type scenario,” she said.
“I was trying my best to stay positive, but on my way to the session I got a comfort food snack and had a very light car prang while doing so. “I ate my hash browns and had a cry in the car park before heading to the session. What resulted was this beautiful, chaotic song about being called a bitch – which is obviously not a fun time, but I’m so glad the song is really fun in spite of that.”
The Buoys – ‘Bitch’
The band premiered ‘Bitch’ live prior to its release, and was included in setlists on their recent national tour as main support for Skegss. They are set to return to Europe next month for their No Sleep Till Reeperbahn headlining tour, and will play their own run of headlining shows in Australia across November and December. These will mark the band’s first headliners in over 12 months, having last undertaken a national tour in support of their debut album, Lustre, in August 2024.
