The Rolling Stones played an intimate secret London show on Dec. 6, in celebration of their late bandmate Charlie Watts. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, as well as bassist Bill Wyman, were all at Ronnie Scott’s in the Soho, neighborhood of London, along with several of Watts’ friends and family.
English pianist, Jools Holland hosted the evening and led a house band featuring childhood friend of Watts and frequent jazz collaborator Dave Green, Ben Waters, and Axel Zwingenberger. Additionally, musicians from the Rolling Stones’ touring band also performed; saxophonist Tim Ries played “Blues For Charlie,” singer Lisa Fischer performed “Trouble On My Mind,” Bernard Fowler then joined Fischer for a duet on the gospel song, “Up Above My Head.”
The night came to a close with an unplanned jam session by Jagger, Wood and Richards who performed the R&B staples “Shame Shame Shame” and “Down the Road Apiece.”
