The Temper Trap Share First New Single In Nine Years, ‘Lucky Dimes’
The Temper Trap have shared a new single, entitled ‘Lucky Dimes’. It marks the first new music from the band in almost a decade, having not put out music since the release of their third studio album Thick As Thieves back in 2016. The band worked with producer and songwriter Kaelyn Behr – AKA Styalz Fuego – on the new track, marking their first time working together. ‘Lucky Dimes’ appears to be the lead single from The Temper Trap’s upcoming and as-yet-untitled fourth studio album, although details for that have not been officially shared by the band at the time of writing.
“It’s good to know that nine years after the last one, we still have something to say,” said the band’s frontman Dougy Mandagi in a press statement. “It’s been an absolute pleasure creating this record, and we can’t wait to share it with you; not to relive the past, but to write the next chapter.” An accompanying music video for ‘Lucky Dimes’, directed by Joey Clough, can be viewed below.
The Temper Trap – ‘Lucky Dimes’
Since the release of Thick As Thieves, the Melbourne pop-rock band have kept a relatively low-profile. They have played roughly 40 shows in total over the last seven years, either in Australia or New Zealand, which have included support slots for Imagine Dragons and Kings Of Leon, festivals such as Out Of The Woods and Changing Tides, and a run of headlining theatre shows in 2019 commemorating the 10-year anniversary of their debut album Conditions.
The band returned to the news last month, when their signature song ‘Sweet Disposition’ was voted in at number 11 in triple j‘s Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs. The station described the song as a “ubiquitous indie anthem we’ve come to hold deep in our hearts” when announcing its placement. “We were all so green and inexperienced in making and performing music,” said Mandagi to the station. “I guess ‘Sweet Disposition’ sort of encapsulated that moment in our lives perfectly.”
