Trey Songz Charged with Assault for Nightclub Incidents

Trey Songz is facing criminal charges following two separate incidents at New York City establishments, with prosecutors alleging the R&B singer assaulted a nightclub employee and damaged property worth $1,500 at a restaurant.

As per Rolling Stone, the 41-year-old artist, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was arraigned on Sunday after being charged with assault related to an incident at Dramma Night Club in Times Square on December 4th. Manhattan prosecutors alleged that Trey Songz became “needlessly irate” and punched an employee in the face around 4:25 AM when told the establishment was closing.

The assault charge stems from what authorities describe as an unprovoked attack on a staff member who was simply informing patrons that the venue was shutting down for the night. The nightclub worker has been granted an order of protection, with prosecutors noting that Neverson was a regular customer at Dramma.

In addition to the assault charge, Trey Songz faces a second-degree mischief charge for a separate incident that occurred early Sunday morning at Mira restaurant and hookah lounge in Manhattan. According to the criminal complaint, the singer allegedly broke approximately $1,500 worth of restaurant property, including hookahs, DJ equipment, and sofas during what prosecutors described as a disturbance.

The timing of the two incidents, more than a week apart, suggests a pattern of behaviour that has now culminated in multiple criminal charges against the artist. Neverson was released on his own recognizance following his court appearance, where he was photographed wearing a black face mask as he left the building.

Defence lawyer Mitchell Schuster issued a statement indicating that his client is “cooperating fully and looks forward to the facts coming to light.” Regarding the Sunday morning incident at Mira, Schuster claimed the confrontation was not Neverson’s fault, stating: “Trey was confronted by individuals who instigated a confrontation and attempted to surround him. His security intervened to protect him and contain the situation, and an altercation occurred in the ensuing confusion.”

The defence attorney suggested that Trey Songz was specifically targeted by individuals acting “in pursuit of headlines or financial gain.”
