Triple J Posts Big Gains Across Digital, Radio and Live Music in 2025
Ringing in its 50th year, triple j has spent 2025 doubling down on the mission that’s defined the station since day one: championing Australian music and delivering moments that matter to young audiences.
The anniversary set the tone for a year stacked with major cultural touchpoints. One Night Stand made a triumphant return, pulling more than 15,000 fans to regional Western Australia and raising over $230,000 for charity.
Unearthed High continued its track record of spotting future stars, crowning 16-year-old Drizz as the class standout. Like A Version maintained its status as a national obsession, clocking more than 125 million combined views across all content this year.
Ausmusic Month brought triple j’s ’50 On Tour’ series to five cities, spotlighting 20 homegrown acts with a healthy dose of surprise guests. At the J Awards, long-time Unearthed favourite Ninajirachi added another career milestone, taking out Album of the Year a decade after first landing on the station’s radar.
And the Hottest 100 of Australian Songs proved to be one of the year’s most defining moments — sparking a national conversation, pulling in 2.6 million votes, and drawing more than 3.1 million live digital stream starts.
Beyond the headline moments, triple j’s 2025 numbers underline the network’s influence. Total views of triple j, Unearthed, and Double J content across digital and social platforms amassed over 1 billion views, with triple j now reaching 1.83 million metro listeners each week.
Triple j played 55% Australian music in 2025, reviewed over 6400+ Australian songs on Unearthed and crowned 40 competition winners who opened for artists like Denzel Curry and at festivals like Laneway. triple j and Double J presented 95 Australian tours nationwide, with 33 more already locked for the start of 2026.
Plus, the station donated $635,000 to five charities this year, including Support Act, The Push, and We Are Mobilise.
Now, the station is gearing up for a huge new year — including the Hottest 100 of 2025.
triple j’s Hottest 100 remains Australia’s biggest music poll, rallying millions of voters each summer. Providing a snapshot of the year in music, it celebrates emerging voices, shapes national conversations, and unites listeners across the country for one of the most anticipated events on the Australian music calendar.
They’ll announce more details about it on Monday (December 8th).
Triple j also recently unveiled its 2026 programming schedule, with two new shows focused on country and electronic music.
Tom Forrest, best known as ‘Outback Tom’, is officially joining the triple j team with Country Club, a new country music show. No stranger to triple j listeners, Forrest has been a longtime friend of the station, guest-hosting on Blak Out, Drive, and over Summer, and has previously held roles in the triple j Unearthed team.
A proud First Nations creator, storyteller, and music lover, he is set to bring listeners the very best in country music, as he broadcasts weekly from outback Australia in the Kimberley region of WA. Each week, Sundays at 6pm, he’ll showcase the best sounds and stories from local and international country artists.
The second new show is Doof, aiming to be the home of Australia’s best electronic music, DJs and producers. Hosted by triple j presenter Latifa Tee, Doof shines a light on the homegrown electronic scene, championing all the local artists making waves. On Fridays from 10pm-1am, she’ll share fresh tracks, familiar favourites, artist chats, and deep dives.
The entire weekday crew is returning in 2026, including Breakfast hosts Concetta & Luke, Mornings’ Lucy Smith, Lunch’s Dave Woodhead, and Drive’s Abby & Tyrone.
Double J will also have some changes in the new year. Presenter, music journalist and legendary broadcaster Zan Rowe will wrap up her time on Friday Mornings, with her replacement to be announced in the new year.
She’s not going far, though — she will continue to host the award-winning Take 5 podcast on Double J throughout the year, while also fronting ABC’s series reboot of Race Around the World and returning with a new season of Take 5 with Zan Rowe.
The 2026 programming for triple j kicks off Monday, January 5th, and Double J on Monday, January 12th.
