Umphrey’s McGee and Andy Frasco & The U.N. took a day off following their year-end runs at The Tabernacle in Atlanta and Brooklyn Bowl in New York City, then reconvened in Chicago for two nights. These performances, which took place at The Salt Shed, also featured Jennifer Hartswick, who appeared with both groups.

Hartswick first joined Umphrey’s toward the close of the first set on Friday, contributing vocals to “Bullhead City,” which she has done intermittently since 2006. She remained for a version of the Doobie Brothers’ “Black Water,” adding vocals and trumpet, while UM’s Brendan Bayliss moved to acoustic guitar. Hartwick later returned during the second frame for the group’s “Electric Avenue to Hell” mashup, which blends Eddy Grant and AC/DC tunes.

On Saturday, Frasco & The U.N. invited Hartswick to join them for a few songs, as she guested on “Love, Come Down,” “Talk About It” and “Somedays.” She was preceded by Umphrey’s bassist Ryan Stasik who joined the openers for a version of Nirvana’s “Breed.”

Another notable cover later followed, as UM played TLC’s  Waterfalls” for the first time, with Hartswick on trumpet and vocals and Sam Kelly on saxophone. She later returned during for the encore, which saw the band move from “JaJunk” into “Under Pressure” and back into “JaJunk.” Hartswick added to vocals to the Queen/Bowie tune, which the group had last performed on 1/21/23.

Umphrey’s McGee and Andy Frasco & The U.N. are now off the road until the middle of January.
