On Saturday night, Umphrey’s McGee closed out their two-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. The evening saw the South Bend, Ind.-bred jamband debut their latest track, “New Wings” and included a multi-track face-off with show opener Andy Frasco and The U.N.

Umphrey’s McGee kicked off the show with “Crucial Taunt” hinting at the affable conflict with Frasco to come. Next, they played “Rocker Part 2” and “Susanah.” The latter was written by Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss and the late Jeff Austin for their 30db project and Bayliss dedicated the performance to his friend and musical compatriot asking the crowd for a “moment of loudness” before they began. They then moved from “Puppet String” into a jam of  “2×2,” which was followed by “Night Nurse” and “Partyin’ Peeps.” To close the set they played “Cut the Cable” which the band dedicated to their original drummer the late Mike Mirro.

Umphrey’s McGee started their second set with the debut of “New Wings,” off their upcoming LP Asking For A Friend. The performance marked the third song the band has shared live–following “Small Strides” and “I Don’t Know What I Want”–ahead of the projects release, set for July 7. They then played an 18-miniute version of their insturmental track “Nothing Too Fancy.”

After the extended take on the “Nothing Too Fancy,” Bayliss apologized to the audience for Frascos “immature” and “disturbing” performance. After the statement, from atop the cover above the soundboard Frasco and his bandmates stood set up and responded by playing Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” with all they lyrics changed to “Fuck you.” Umphrey’s McGee answered them by performing “Bombtrack,” by Rage Against The Machine which in turn was responded to by Frasco and his crew with Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band” with they lyrics changed to “We’re in the opening band.” The back and forth continued with Frasco and The U.N. playing “Bulls On Parade” and finally Umphrey’s McGee throwing a rendition of J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine” back at them after which Bayliss shouted “We win!” with a smile. The set continued with Umphrey’s McGee playing “Frankie Zombie” which was followed by “Higgins” and a pairing of “Wappy Sprayberry” > “The Floor.”

Umphrey’s McGee returned to the stage for an encore of “Gulf Stream” melded into “Pupper String” which was teased in the first set.
