Video Premiere: River Kittens “Dressing on the Side”

After meeting at an impromptu bluegrass jam seven years ago, Mattie Schell and Allie Vogler soon teamed up as River Kittens. Schell recalls, “We came together exactly how you’d expect…playing music at a bar. I just happened to be Allie’s bartender at one of our favorite spots in St. Louis. I clocked out and went outside to jam with some friends. Allie and I heard each other sing and we’ve been singing together ever since.”

Devon Allman produced their debut EP, Soaking Wet, and released it this past spring through his Create Records imprint. As we’ve noted, this record spotlights their  “warm, nimble, sibling-tight harmonies.”

River Kittens will be active on the road through 2021, opening for Samantha Fish and later participating in the Allman Family Revival. In anticipation of all this, today we are premiering the official video for “Dressing on the Side” from Soaking Wet.

Schell and Vogler tell Relix, “Everyone can relate to ‘Dressing on the Side’ because we’ve all had a crappy day at work, but this one truly goes out to our bartenders, servers and chefs. This song is best paired with a shift beer and a shot! A few years back, We had both finished a shift at our respective restaurants and went straight to a recording session. We were commiserating with one another about our worst customers of the day. The session engineer said, ‘Don’t whine to me about it, write a damn song!’ So we did.”

As for the video they note, “It was a blast and a total family affair. It is full of our closest friends and family making their acting debut.  The video was even shot by Mattie’s sister and brother-in-law!”
