Chloe Parché has stepped into the triple j studio with her full band in tow, putting her own stamp on a modern Australian classic for her debut Like A Version.

Taking on The Presets’ 2008 hit ‘My People’ — a dance floor favourite that has ingrained itself into the Australian music psyche — Parché chose not to mirror its club-ready electronics.

Instead, she stripped the track right back, kept that unmistakable riff, and rebuilt it into a guitar-driven indie rock track.

Big drums, layered harmonies, and the kind of commanding vocal she’s quickly becoming known for all push the song into new territory while preserving the song’s urgent pulse — watch it in full below.

“I wanted the harmonies to be super stacked. I just wanted to keep the energy, you know?,” she said. “Because the original has so much so much energy, and we had seven or eight people in the band, so many talented musicians being like ‘I’ve got an idea! Let’s put this in there’ and it just kind of came together.”

It’s a bold pick for a first LAV, but bold moves are already part of Parché’s story.

The 21-year-old has been co-signed by heavyweight artists and tastemakers, toured nationally with her high-school bandmates, and continues to gather momentum off the back of her debut album Moneymaker and EPs Crooked and Bad With Words.

The latter helped her sell out her first headline show in Sydney — proof that a growing fanbase is following her ascent in real time.

Signed to FRNDS MGMT, alongside talent like Alison Wonderland, Charlie Pittman, DMA’s and Pacific Avenue, today’s Like A Version only reinforces what’s already clear: Parché is a natural talent with a bold vision.
